ASA - AFRICAN SAFARI AIRWAYS
(Kenya)

A lot of charter carriers in Africa came and went. If you look for an exception, you'll only find it in Kenya, where African Safari Airways has been operating for over twenty years, linking European cities with the beaches of the east African coast. It was in 1992 when #185 was leased from KLM and became ASA's flagship. The aircraft was purchased on a lease/buy agreement and entered service December 29th 1992 with a flight from Basle to Mombasa. #185 replaced a DC-8-63 and like its predecessor, it is the only aircraft in the fleet of African Safari Airways. Unfortunately, the aircraft didn't take over the scheme of the DC-8, so that the famous zebra colors are only seen on the tail of its DC-10 which was expected to have a long career flying for African Safari Airways.
In late 2001, African Safari decided to replace the DC-10 with an ex Hapag-Lloyd A310-300...
