QANTAS
(Australia)

Believe it or not - there is also a small chapter about Qantas and the DC-10. The airline placed an option for a single aircraft in 1973, but for range and fleet commonality reasons decided an a pure 747-200/747SP - fleet. Lateron, it seemed that the Christmas and new years traffic at the end of 1987 was going to be very high so that a DC-10 was leased from Dutch carrier Martinair to supplement the 747 fleet on some of the Asia routes. The first flight took place on Christmas Eve of 1987 from Sydney via Brisbane to Singapore, the last known flight took place on February 11th on the same route. The DC-10 was operated in a Martinair full colour scheme with a sticker stating "on lease to Qantas". The trijet spent only short time with Qantas and left the fleet in February of 1988. Qantas is now an operator of 737, 767, A330 and 747 and is said to place an order for 777 and 787 soon.
