PHILIPPINE AIRLINES
Another Douglas-costumer in Asia is Philippine Airlines, which became DC-10 operator in April of 1975, when they leased a KLM aircraft to supplement the 747 on lower-density routes. Parallely, two aircraft were ordered directly from Mc Donnell - Douglas and so the KLM DC-10s were returned. These aircraft arrived in 1976 and 1980. Both aircraft were placed on the inner-Asian routes where the A300 lacked of capacity and range, also on some services to Europe. The pair of DC-10-30s served well until 1994, when the first A340 arrived - totally, five DC-10s were operated. But in 1998, Philippine Airlines was declared bankruptcy and a large number of aircraft was sold or returned to the lessors. In 1998, Philippine operated 737-300, A320, A300, A330, A340, 747-200 and -400 as well as some leased MD-11 from World Airways. Operations were resumed with a reduced fleet.
