SUN COUNTRY AIRLINES
(USA)

Founded in 1982, Sun Country Airlines is well-known among the US-charter operators. The airline became a DC-10 operator on June 16th 1986, when a DC-10-40 was leased from Northwest Airlines. This aircraft was Sun Country’s first widebody aircraft and some more (mainly series 15 aircraft from Aeromexico) were added in the early nineties. Two additional aircraft were leased for some years from Scanair in Sweden. Sun Country’s DC-10-15 fleet became the largest in the world and together with aircraft of other series, the all-time fleet numbered 11 aircraft. The last aircraft (and Sun Country's last wide-body) left the fleet on April 30th 2001. Now, Sun Country operates charter holiday services with 737-700/800 and 727-200 to the US West Coast, as well as to Mexico and several Caribbean islands. Scheduled service were planned, but Sun Country Airlines became a victim of 2001's aviation crisis and suspended operations.
