First founded in 1947, Arrow Air went thorugh several ups and downs throughout more than 50 years 
of airline history. Several times, the airline failed for bankruptcy and closed, but later reactivated again. A pair of series 10 aircraft was leased from International Air Leases in 1983, supplemented by a third aircraft in early 1984. The douglas trijets were used on routes between large North American cities (including Miami, New York and Toronto) and resort destinations in the Caribbean as well as London/Gatwick. # 83, one of the original aircraft, was replaced in late 1984 by two more DC-10-10, this time ex-Western aircraft. Arrow Air’s DC-10 operations ended in 1985 after heavy losses forced the airline to sub-lease the DC-10s or even return them. After a recovery, the airline switched to the Lockheed L-1011 TriStar and did not operate any DC-10 until 2004, when they switched back to the Douglas product. A fleet of up to 10 DC-10s is planned. The first aircraft, #34, joined the fleet in July 2004 and more series -10F, -30F and -40F aircraft followed between 2004 and 2006. Unfortunately, Arrow Air lost one of their DC-10-10F(AF)s on June 4th 2006 when #98 overshot the runway in Managua, Nicaragua.
